Hello hello! I’m Damon Williams, 14Y Fitness Manager, and your guide to all things health and wellness.

For many of us, working out at home can seem like a very foreign concept. I mean, how could we ever think of working out at home when we have two couches, two kids, a cat and a cactus all in a NYC apartment that the broker once described as “cozy” (and we all know what that means!)?

Well, I’m here to tell you that the FUNDAMENTALS of working out at home really are no different than working out anywhere else. So, what exactly are these fundamentals? Glad you asked! See below for my top tips to working out at home (or anywhere!)

  1. Come up with a game plan. Working out at home doesn’t just happen. You have to prepare yourself by coming up with a plan that works for you and your household. Start with the basics. WHEN (days/times of the week you set aside for your workouts), WHAT (what am I going to be doing for a workout? More on that later!), WHERE (where in my home can I make space to workout) and WHY, which leads us to my second tip.
  2. Know your reason why. This is the key motivator that will get you off the couch and into a workout when nothing else will. It’s the fuel to your fire whenever you find your motivation declining, (and trust me, it will, from time to time). When you think of this “why,” let it reignite your desire to achieve your goal all over again—putting you back on the right track! Every person’s “why” is unique and personal, as it should be. It’s your very own secret weapon to get you back on track when the going gets tough!
  3. Get the help you need to achieve. There’s no need to go it alone if you don’t have to.
