The 14Y After School program engages heads, hands and hearts for children in Kindergarten – 5th Grade.

Rest easy knowing your child’s afternoon is full, festive, and active until 6:00pm  – all in a safe and supportive environment. After School is open to all needs and abilities.

About the 14Y After School Program

Each afternoon includes homework help and a healthy snack, as well as classes centering on heads, hearts, and hands.

Our signature enrichment classes are taught by our specially trained counselors and professional teaching artists. Age-appropriate classes include Photography, Dungeons and Dragons, Cooking, Swim, Martial Arts, Basketball, Jewelry Making, Zoology, Music Making, and much more. In addition to our After School offerings, after schoolers have access for all 14Y programming at discounted rates.

Tuition for the 14Y After School program includes transportation from local neighborhood schools. Register for the 2, 3, 4, or 5 days of After School each week. Scholarships are available on a limited basis.

Class Descriptions 

Mondays

Photography (K-2nd)

Learn the basics of photography from a practicing artist. You’ll even get a chance to make a scrapbook of your memories!

Zoology (K-2nd)

Junior zoologists will explore the main branches of the animal kingdom including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, insects, and fish! Studies will be conducted on animal classification and camouflage, as well as ecosystems and food webs.

Gaga (K-2nd)

Gaga (Israeli dodgeball) is a physical class that allows children to exert lots of energy through running, dodging, and fun. It also incorporates the ideals of teamwork, strategic thinking, and creativity in making new variations of the game. Some of these variations include Silent Gaga, Team Gaga, Dodge-Ga, Freeze-Ga, Golden Snitch Gaga, Chickens vs Farmers, Poison Wall, Sticky Ninj-Ga, and Build-A-Ga.

Dramatic Play (K-2nd)

If you love treasure hunts, shipbuilding, designing flags, swashbuckling, and daring stories – that’s just our Pirate Week. We’re jam-packing the fun and mixing it up as we explore different themes, and combine storytelling with fun and unique team-based games! Each week will have a different theme and lots of fun to come.

Super Soccer Stars (K-2nd)*

Get the ball rolling! Join Super Soccer Stars, NYC’s most popular soccer development program, right here at the 14Y.

Dynamic international coaches work with every student to develop skills, self-confidence, and teamwork in a fun, non-competitive environment. Positive reinforcement and low child-to-coach ratios ensure that each child will improve their soccer skills through engaging warm-ups, activities, and games—all while having endless fun!

The goal of the program at this stage is to improve children’s elementary capacity through fun games, technical skill development and group activities. Emphasis is placed on awareness of teammates constantly so that these skills can be easily transferred into the soccer game.

Every K-2 Soccer Stars class includes ball activities with high repetitions to promote muscle memory that builds confidence and ball control skills.

Building (K-2nd)

Calling all builders, creators and designers! We will come up with our own designs and build structures using Legos, building blocks, and various other items. After schoolers will develop creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork skills!

Swim (K-2nd)*

Learn to swim through the American Red Cross (ARC) Learn to Swim Program with our favorite Certified Swim instructor, Ally! Designed for all levels, classes allow swimmers to develop good habits in, on, and near water, learn and refine new strokes, and become stronger, safer swimmers.

Super Soccer Stars (3rd-5th)*

Chickenshed NYC (K-2nd)*

Children dive into all aspects of theatre making through playful games and activities that fuel their imagination and help them explore the magical world of performance. Under the guidance and support of professional Theatrical Practitioners young Players have fun with games, singing, dancing, puppetry, storytelling, and basic American Sign Language in these dynamic workshops.

The children will only perform in front of their families and carers, allowing them time to prepare for a wider audience when they move up to the next level.

Fantastic Fitness (K-2nd)

Looking to get some more exercise in your day to day? Join us for a class full of fitness and fun! We will run laps, do some Zumba, twirl batons, build our muscle strength and have spirited team challenges with our favorite fitness coach, Matt!

Boardgame Masters (K-2nd)

In a digital world, sometimes we need to take a break and go back to the basics. Board Game Masters doesn’t just focus on playing board games, we focus on the learning that surrounds it. Teamwork, communication skills, strategic thinking, and good sportsmanship are all foundations that begin with just a board game and a roll of the dice. From Werewolf to Catan, we’ve got it going on!

Four Square (3rd-5th)

A classic game we all know and love! Students of all skill levels can come learn the art of the game and compete against each other!

Comic Book Making (3rd-5th)

We all have stories to share, and comic books are timeless classics no matter the age. Comic book making is one of the most traditional mediums in the world when it comes to combining storytelling techniques and unique aesthetics. In this class, storytelling and art go hand-in-hand as we explore character creation, paneling, dialogue creation, coloring, and so much more!

Nature’s Classroom (K-2nd)

Welcome to nature’s classroom, where we’ll get our hands and feet dirty and explore the natural world. Our older kids will learn to identify plants and creatures in the local environment including house plants, succulents, cacti and more! They will also learn which plants can thrive in certain climates and help design our brand-new greenhouses on the 14Y Roof!

Chickenshed NYC (3rd-5th)*

This fall kids will be rehearsing for a new musical, Ever After, based on some of Grimms’ famous fairytales set against the beautiful backdrop of Central Park. Unlike other theatre companies, our high Theatre Practitioner to Player ratio allows us to facilitate small groups, establishing foundations for strong relationships within our theatrical community. In this setting, children can regularly showcase their theatrical activities in front of each other without having to wait for the end of term performance.

Wednesday

Water Colors (K-2nd)

Our after schoolers will unlock their creativity by playing with a world of colors in Water Colors with JoJo! They will also bring home artwork to share with their families.

Mad Science (K-2nd)

Science is always in the air! In this class with Rose, mad scientists will conduct all sorts of experiments and blow up a balloon with baking soda, make an egg bounce, build a marshmallow catapult and so much more!

TGA Premier Tennis (K-2nd)*  

TGA Premier Sports coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of grip, forehand, backhand, volley, and serve. Tennis is an individualistic sport so each player progresses through our five-level program at their own pace.

Music Making (K-2nd)

In this experiential music class, our mini musicians will learn and sing songs through movement to better understand music concepts as well as develop their musical ear.

Spy Kids (K-2nd)

A great spy never reveals his secrets… unless he’s teaching a class on spying. Create your foolproof secret identity, encrypt messages containing sensitive information, break any code that comes your way, and learn how to hack into the CIA’s mainframe compu…err, I mean, uh… play fun make-believe games with your friends… Sign up today!

Martial Arts (K-2nd)

Learn the ancient practice of self-discipline and physical strength. Kids will practice real, safe moves on breakable boards and pads, while learning tumbling as well!

Crafting (K-2nd)

Pinewood Derby (3rd-5th)

Build a pinewood derby car from scratch and learn how to make yours the fastest car at the track. We’ll learn the basics of how cars are put together, assemble and decorate our own, then put them all to the test at a pinewood derby race! As Bruce Springsteen once said (and I’m paraphrasing): the school year’s here, and the time is right for racing in the streets!

Martial Arts (3rd-5th)

In this class, we channel that energy, explore our own inner worlds, and use the magic of discovery to create one-of-a-kind games that can’t be reproduced anywhere else.

Mad Science (3rd-5th)

Science is always in the air! In this class with Rose, mad scientists will conduct all sorts of experiments including building and blowing up their own volcanoes, making toothpaste, creating homemade lava lamps and so much more!

TGA Premier Tennis (3rd-5th)*

TGA Premier Sports coaches lead students through station-based drills and games that develop the fundamental skills of grip, forehand, backhand, volley, and serve. Tennis is an individualistic sport so each player progresses through our five-level program at their own pace.

Music Composition (3rd-5th)

In music composition our older musicians will learn about musical notation as well as different styles and periods of music.

Welcome to ballet with Shoshanna! Creative movement encourages self-expression. Beginners enjoy stretching, leaping, and improvisational movement while combining dance and theatre techniques. Intermediate dancers develop basic foot, arm, and body placement, and posture. Students work at the bar for balance and development of strength, discipline, and flexibility.

Basketball (K-2nd)

wonderful introduction to basketball for those who have not played before as well as a chance for ballers to continue to develop their skills with Coach Anthony.

Book Arts (K-2nd)

Come share your ideas through drawing and book-making! In this class, we will explore several book forms like the accordion books, instant books, and tiny books. Practice your storytelling skills, cartoon-drawing, or writing to create as many books as you want!

Jewelry Making (K-2nd)

Beads galore! Create a stunning collection of beaded jewelry and friendship bracelet to share with your best buds!

Basketball (3rd-5th)

A wonderful introduction to basketball for those who have not played before as well as a chance for ballers to continue to develop their skills with Coach Anthony.

Experimental Publishing (3rd-5th)

Come learn about drawing, typography, design, writing, and photography in this mixed-media arts class. We will work together to create and design a weekly newspaper with an advice column, 14Y news, weather forecast, cartoons, and more! You get to choose your role, what you work on, and design your pages to be published the following week.

Jewelry Making (3rd-5th)

Learn to create your own jewelry! Beads, wires, glitter, you name it, we got it! Make a matching full set of earrings, a necklace, a bracelet, and a ring.

Enchanted Engineering (3rd-5th)

Once upon a time, our favorite fairy tale characters found themselves in sticky situations and we are here to help! Through STEM principles, we will make a potion to wake up Sleeping Beauty, design a compass to help Hansel and Gretel find their way, build a boat to get the Three Billy Goats Gruff across the river and more!

Spanish (K-2nd)

Hola y bienvenidos a la clase! This class will take young students through the basics of Spanish with fun activities and spoken practice. No experience necessary, this class is for true beginners and experienced speakers.

Party Games (K-2nd)

An active games class just for youngers! Students will play theater arts games such as charades, salad bowl, taboo, “where ya goin?” and other games that exercise the mind and body!

Sensory Squish (K-2nd)

Slime! Clay! Playdoh! After schoolers can get their squish on in Sensory Squish with JoJo.

Ping Pong (3rd-5th)

Learn how to serve, and the basics of all the different table tennis strokes! This class is great for beginners and seasoned players!

Speech and Debate (3rd-5th)

Learn the art of persuasion and respectfully discussing your brilliant ideas. Kids will create arguments and form their own opinions about a variety of topics and learn how to defend their opinions to others!

Upcycled Art (3rd-5th)

Artists will use recyclable materials to make amazing creations and let their creativity run wild while helping the environment along the way.

Flexible payment plans are available upon checkout on CampSite. A minimum of 10% of your total registration is due in order to complete enrollment.

Registration Class Refund & Credit Policy

Credits will be provided in the instance of a mandatory quarantine due to COVID-19. Refunds will not be provided.

We also accept Self-Direction, ACS, and HRA Vouchers.

Requirements for Enrollment

Each after schooler will need to submit an up-to-date medical form filled out by your child’s pediatrician, dated within one year. We do not accept religious exemptions, and all campers must be fully immunized. 

In our continued effort to combat the spread of COVID-19 and keep our community safe, the 14Y will be requiring all children aged 5+ to be fully vaccinated by their first day of After School.

Failure to provide proof of vaccination will result in exclusion from the fall semester of After School and our inability to pick up your child from their school.
