Youth Classes

Our 14Y Youth Classes engage heads, hands, and hearts.

Our signature Youth Classes, taught by professional teaching artists, give your child the opportunity to hone their skills and express their creativity in a focused, supportive setting.

Youth Classes are open to children ages 4 to 12 of all needs and abilities. Please note that classes noted as “14Y Preschool Pre-K Only” are for children currently enrolled in the 14Y Preschool.

14Y and MCC Members, as well as After School and Preschool families receive 14% off class rates! Email YouthPrograms@14streety.org to redeem this offer.

Classes are open to children of all needs and abilities.

All classes are disability-inclusive and overseen by Support Manager with the support of social work interns to ensure the children’s success.

No class dates: Week of April 15 – 23 (Spring Break) as well as May 30 (Memorial Day).

Mondays

Super Duper Tennis: Mini Aces
3:15 PM – 4:00 PM | 14Y Preschool Pre-K Only
This is a “get ready for tennis” class where the focus is on developing motor skills, athletic skills, tracking and hand-eye coordination. Children learn to trap, hit off the roll and volleys through interactive games. More importantly, it’s about having FUN!

Super Duper Tennis: Little Aces
4:15 PM – 5:00 PM | Grades K – 2nd*
Players develop athletic skills that help them be better tennis players. In addition, players learn fundamental tennis skills including the basic strokes – groundstrokes and volleys, as well as overheads and drop-hit/feed. Classes focus on swing path fundamentals with each stroke through fun and interactive methods of teaching. Players also get introduced to scoring in a fun, cooperative and competitive environment.

Super Duper Tennis: Big Aces
5:30 – 6:15 PM | Grades 3rd – 5th
Players learn technical and tactical tennis skills, while continuously building athletic skills. Classes focus swing path fundamentals, classic grip and stroke development for the basic strokes learned in Little Aces and get to learn a new stroke – the serve. Players also learn how to keep score and rally in a fun, competitive environment.

Ballet with Shoshana
5:45 PM – 6:30 PM | Grades K – 2nd
Welcome to ballet with Shoshana, where the exploration of creative movement will help students gain confidence, increase body awareness and encourage imagination and fun. Beginner ballet dancers will enjoy stretching, leaping, and improvisational movement while combining dance and theatre techniques. Intermediate dancers develop basic posture, and foot, arm and body placement. Students will work at the barre to develop balance, strength, discipline, and flexibility.

Theater with Sienna
3:15 PM – 4:00 PM | 14Y Preschool Pre-K Only
In Theater with Sienna, children will learn the skills of performance and use their imagination to make themselves and the world into anything imaginable! Children will make songs, dances, plays, tell stories, and clap and cheer for their classmates as they learn the skills of how to be a good audience, too.

Cooking with Chef Jason 
4:15 PM – 5:00 PM | 14Y Preschool Pre-K Only
Join Chef Jason to become mini chefs-in-training! Be prepared to get a little messy by learning to use kitchen tools and by making delicious dishes! Please let our staff know of any food allergies or dietary restrictions upon registering.

Super Soccer Stars is the classic youth soccer program that teaches the fundamentals of the sport in a fun, non-competitive, educational environment. Our unique curricula use positive reinforcement and a low child-to-coach ratio to make sure each child feels supported and confident in his or her own abilities, allowing kids to improve at their own rate. All Super Soccer Stars classes are based on an age-specific curriculum created by a combination of early childhood, soccer, and behavioral specialists to guarantee that each child is learning and having a blast from the moment the whistle blows.

NYC Art
4:15 PM – 5:00 PM | 14Y Preschool Pre-K Only
Show your appreciation to nature and the animals of NYC through art! This class promotes creativity and expression through drawing, painting, collage, and printing, using plants, animals, and New York’s unique ecosystem as inspiration.

Youth Basketball
4:30 PM – 5:30 PM | Grades 3rd – 5th
Youth Basketball with Coach Joey is back at the 14Y!
This class will concentrate on dribbling, shooting with purpose, defense, and passing; players will get the opportunity to learn and develop confidence in their skills to be ready for gameplay.


Vaccine Policy for 14Y Youth Classes

The 14Y requires all children aged 5+ to show proof of COVID-19 vaccine to attend 14Y Youth Classes.

Children ages 5+ who wish to enroll in the upcoming spring semester, which begins the week of March 28, must have proof of a full course of an approved COVID-19 vaccine by the start of the spring semester.*

Please email a photo of your child’s vaccine card to youthprograms@14streety.org.

Failure to provide proof of vaccination will result in cancellation of your child’s spring class enrollment.

*If your child is not yet 5 years old, you must submit proof of their first dose within 14 days of their fifth birthday to continue to participate in 14Y programming.

Partner Programs

Chickenshed NYC

Chickenshed NYC is an inclusive theatre company for children and young people, whose mission is to create entertaining and outstanding theatre by fostering inclusion and integration that inspires positive change.

Chickenshed’s model of Inclusive Theatre is based in the belief that everyone can flourish when everyone is included and its members represent the mosaic of cultures, ethnicities, disabilities and identities that make up our world.

Core programs include: Adventures from The Shed, immersive live performances for preschoolers and their families and Chickenshed Players (CP), no-audition theatrical workshops for kids and teens where the participants are led by professional teaching artists to create and devise the productions they perform.

Spring: March 26  – June 18

Classes are rolling admission and prorated.

CP 1 | Ages 5 – 7

Children explore all aspects of theatre through playful games, singing, dancing, puppetry, storytelling, and basic American Sign Language under the guidance and support of professional Teaching Artists. These young Players only perform in an intimate setting in front of families and friends learning slowly how to showcase their talents in front of a live audience.

CP 2: Ages 7-10 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
CP 3: Ages 10-13 | 12:30 – 2:00 PM
CP 4: Ages 13-17+ | 12:30 – 2:00 PM

Players rehearse a new musical adaptation of the book The Tigon and the Liger to be performed in 14Y Theater in June. Working in small groups participants will add their ideas and creativity into the movement and choreography.

This production centers on the natural world and demonstrates how art and science are not only compatible fields but can also enhance each other.

For Children in K–5th Grade

Rest easy knowing your child’s afternoon is full, festive, and active until 6:00 PM—all in a safe and supportive environment. After School is open to all needs and abilities.

At the 14Y’s NTDC children gather together to celebrate summer and to make friends in a safe, fun environment. Activities include play in our gymnasium, swim in our indoor heated pool, outdoor roof play, and so much more!
