Meet the After School Program Staff, 2015-2016
Director of School Year Youth Programs
Kendra has her bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut in Speech Language Pathology and a Graduate Certificate in Gifted Education and Talent Development also from the University of Connecticut. Prior to the 14th St. Y, Kendra worked at the Educational Alliance for 7 years in several roles in Community Schools and Youth Services with school based programs for youth in grades K through 8th. Kendra recently moved to the neighborhood and has been enjoying trying new restaurants and walking by the river; Kendra also likes to travel and most recently learned how to Kiteboard in the Dominican Republic.
Patrick will be returning to the After School Program for his second year as the Program Coordinator and third year at the Y. Patrick worked as a counselor in 2012-2013 and as an Assistant Unit Head in Science and Tech at New Country Day Camp. He has a B.A. in Microbiology from the University of Maryland, and has since moved to New York City to pursue a career in comedy. He is by far the funniest and one of the best guitar players at the Y. Patrick will be teaching the new class, Globe Trekkers this year! Patrick assists Kendra with all program related issues so if you have a question, he’s your guy.
Patrick is both First Aid and CPR certified.
Matthew is a graduate from Stony Brook University with a B.S. in Health Science - Environmental Health and Safety. He is currently trying to get into graduate school for Occupational Therapy. He is also a bouldering enthusiast! He also teaches Math puzzles and Legos. Matthew is both First Aid and CPR certified. Matt picks up from PS40.
My name is Joey Brasuell I am a Youth Sports Coach for the Y. I been working with the Y-Educational Alliance Organization for 3 years and have been working with the After School program for almost a year. I have been raised here in the Lower Manhattan area and made my ways playing the game of basketball all over the city. I have a Lab/Beagle named Riley Wade, which I named after my favorite NBA Player Dwyane Wade. My favorite foods are Lasagna and Ropa Vieja with white rice & black beans. In my down time while not playing basketball, I love to watch/and or read Anime, go to the movies, or enjoy a good meal out with friends. Joey picks up from PS40.
Danielle is a Hunter College graduate with a degree in Studio Art. This is her third year working at After School. She will be teaching two classes this year, Fiber Arts and Clay Creations. Danielle picks up from Success Academy and The Earth School.
Imani is joining our After School team for her third year. She is studying law enforcement at Medgar Evers College and enjoys playing basketball. She is also an extreme fashionista and loves to shop! Imani teaches Puppetmaking and assists in the youngers Cooking class. Imani picks up from PS 110. Imani is both First Aid and CPR certified. Imani picks up from PS110.
Mauricio is currently a Math major at St. Francis College. In the past, he has worked at the New Country Day Camp. He will be returning for his second year at After School, and he really enjoys playing soccer with the kids. He teaches Math and Puzzles. Mauricio picks up from PS110 and NEST+M.
Ms. Marion has devoted the past 27 years of her life to enriching the lives of children at the Y. She works both in the preschool and in the After School Program in addition to the New Country Day AfterCamp and New Town Day Camp. She is looking forward to coming back next year, and she will be teaching Paper Creations and Puppetmaking, in addition to assisting in the Cooking classes. Ms. Marion picks up from PS 19 and is certified in First Aid and CPR.
Irv will be returning to the Y for his fifth year. In his time here, he has established great relationships with both the children and families in the program. He loves assisting in art classes and enjoys playing baseball and basketball with the children. He is a Red Cross first responder and recently went to help Tornado victims affected in Moore, Oklahoma. Irv picks up from The East Village Community School and The Children’s Workshop.
My name is Antonio Rodriguez and this will be my third year in After School. I'm in my Junior year at St. Johns University studying Human Services. Gaga for youngers and olders are the classes I'll be teaching. I love playing sports, drawing with the children, and I look forward to maybe teaching them something new this year! Antonio picks up from East Village Community School and Children's Workshop.
Cristina has been involved at the Y for the past 11 years in various capacities. She will be returning to the After School Program for her third year. She has worked with children with special needs at The Brooklyn Blue Feather as a behavioral training assistant. Cristina also works in member support and childcare at the Y. She is currently finishing her B.A. in Spanish and Political Science. Cristina enjoys tutoring and being a mentor and positive role model for the kids. Cristina loves to travel and visit new places. Cristina picks up from The Earth School and Immaculate Conception.
Bridget is happily returning to the Y for her second year at After School! She is a graduate from the School of Visual Arts with a BFA in Photography. She grew up in a small town near Syracuse, and now loves in Brooklyn. In her free time, she can be found cuddling with the nearest cat, experimenting with vegan baking, doodling, making signs, or staring into the viewfinder of one of her cameras (of course). Bridget teaches both Photography and Graphic Novel Writing.Bridget picks up from PS40.
Ben Berk is in his fourth year at the Y After School. He graduated in 2011 from Syracuse University and has worked with kids since he was 13. He is a big sports fan, especially of the New York Yankees. Ben picks up from Success Academy.
Sandy Gonzalez is a native New Yorker and a recent graduate from Sarah Lawrence College with a degree in Liberal Arts; her concentrations were Spanish, Dance, and Psychology. Sandy will complete her masters in teaching (also at Sarah Lawrence) in May. She has worked at her college’s Early Childhood Center and New Town Day Camp for two years. In the Fall, she will be student teaching at Central Park East Elementary School. She is a lover of contemporary dance, music, DJing, art, and food. Sandy is new to the After School program and is excited to teach Beginning Italian Cooking. Sandy is CPR certified. Sandy picks up from Success Academy.
Jessica Bill is a counselor new to the YMHA community. She holds a BFA in theatre performance from Niagara University. While studying, she traveled the area with a children's theatre troupe, performed at Buffalo's Shakespeare in Delaware Park, and also directed Starpoint Middle School's spring musical production. Jessica is a former cast member of Walt Disney World Theme Parks where she performed in The Trolley Show at The Magic Kingdom. She is ecstatic to share her love of theatre with the students of Drama Kids which she will teach this semester. Jessica picks up from PS110
My name is Brandon and this is my second year working at the Y. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and currently live there. I love the arts and specifically dance, so I love the fact that this year I get to teach creative movement to the younger kids. Brandon picks up from PS110.
This is Justice. He loves to have fun and be silly. While his focus at After School is currently chess, he has also taught both world cooking and theater games. And he's quite the dancer. Justice picks up from East Village Community School and Children's Workshop.
Marshall is a recent graduate of the NYU program in Educational Theatre. She doesn't like sitting still for too long, and enjoys making people laugh. Most of all, she loves to make theatre. Marshall teaches Improv (theatre games) and Creative Movement. Marshall picks up from Immaculate Conception School.
My name is Ilanit, pronounced ee-lah-neet if you were wondering, but the After Schoolers call me Niti. This is my second year at the14th Street Y. I have grown up and lived in New York City my entire life. My favorite activities are sports and cooking! This year I will be teaching Italian cooking. Ilanit picks up from PS110.
Sam is 20 years old and is currently studying Politics at New York University. He plans to pursue education or public policy following graduation. He has worked at day camps in the past, and will be joining the After School Program for his first year this fall. He really enjoys swimming, math activities and playing sports with the kids. Sam picks up from PS40.
My name is Daniella and I'm excited for my first year at the 14th Street Y! I'm currently getting my masters degree in Psychology at Pace University. My future education plan is to get a doctorate in Child Psychology. I also volunteer with a cat rescue where I feed and play with the cats, and clean cages. I currently also have two adorable foster kittens. Daniella picks up from NEST+M.
My name is Wendy and I am currently a student at NYU commuting from Long island. I have a Pekingese dog whose name is Kitty and she likes to lay in the sun. My favorite colors are purple and red, and I don't like going on roller coasters but I love water rides. Some of the things I love to do are going to the beach, go skiing or going to watch movies. Wendy picks up from The Earth School.
