After School Parent Testimonials
Hear what parents are saying about the After School Program at the 14th Street Y!
"The 14th Street Y After school program is a working parent's dream. Not only is my child in a safe place After School, but she is engaged in a variety of activities while being supported by caring, energetic and creative staff. She has been exposed to unique classes that have fostered her creativity and her confidence and she has made great friends.”
Danielle Ferrante, parent of Rising 3rd grader at Children’s Workshop
"My daughter just finished her first year of Kindergarten and her first year at the Y's After School program. An easy transition it was not. By the time she got to After School she was tired and, frankly, done. She wanted no part of it. But Chloe and the amazing counselors worked with her (and her parents) and figured out what she could handle and what she couldn't. Back in September there was a lot of coloring happening. The counselors became her friends. She would sit in the lobby at the end of the day and wait so that she could say good bye to every counselor on their way out of the building. As weeks and months passed she was able to handle other activities, made friends, colored less and began to rely on the counselors a little less (but, even in June, she was still in the lobby waiting to say her good byes). This program isn't three hours a day of "do whatever you want until your parents come to get you". There is structure and so much enrichment. A class a day to exercise the mind and body (plus swimming 2x a week!). Cooking, science, gaga, dance, art, and Alise Potter's World, just to name a few. My 5 year old was playing chess! And, if you register for "Art with Eve", it won't take long before you and your child realize that they are being taught by one of the best children's art teachers in the city. And, the holiday camps? Top notch - wish I could go! I could go on and on about how wonderful this program is. Fortunately, my daughter gets to do this for 5 more years (and hopefully by then there will be a middle school program)."

“From the first day Nyla walked into the 14th street Y she has felt the genuine warmth of the staff. Chloe and her wonderful staff have made sure that my child enters and leaves the Y with a smile on her face every day with loads of adventures to share with me! I am pleased with the staff who pick-up the kids at CWS, they are very well organized and nurturing to the kids! What's most important is that my child feels safe walking to the Y every day!!! I would highly recommend this After School to families without hesitation!!”

“My son Justin LOVES the 14th street Y After School program. From swimming to basketball and GaGa he has found a place that allows him to grow and learn at his pace while doing great and fun things After School. The communication with parents is excellent and we have found a community of people to enjoy raising our kids with.”
Brian Leitner, Parent of rising 1st grader, PS 40
“The 14th Street Y After School program has been a wonderful experience for our son. He looks forward to it everyday. There is an incredible variety of enrichment classes to choose from, ranging from art and music to science and sports. Many of the classes culminate in a performance at the end of the session, which is a great boost for the kids' self-esteem, and a great way for parents to see what the kids have been learning. The teaching includes a strong sense of culture and community responsibility, which the kids bring home and put into practice. The Y community is warm and diverse, made up of interesting families, strong leaders, and talented counselors. Kids get to have fun, explore new skills, and socialize with students from different schools and grade levels. We are thrilled with the After School program at the Y, and could not imagine a better complement to the education he is getting at school.”
Margaret Vira, Parent of rising 2nd grader, Nest+M
“We have really appreciated the After School program at the 14th St. Y. The administrators and counselors are just wonderful, and the enrichment classes are great. At the end of the day when we arrive to pick up our daughter, it's always hard to get her to leave. I think that says a lot about the program.”
Todd Gibson, Parent of rising 3rd grader, PS 110
“I would like to express what a wonderful year Seamus had at the 14 Street Y’s After School program. The program continues to get better with the enrichment classes and counselors. This year there were more classes and variety than before and an opportunity to sample the range of offerings with quarterly semester classes. The counselors have been a crucial factor in making Seamus’ experience positive -- this past year he returned for his fourth consecutive year. Having counselors that are fun, energetic and dedicated with the children make the program a great success. It was a nice surprise to learn that the counselors have taken part in shaping the enrichment classes and bringing their own creativity to the program. This past year, I’ve been pleased with the communication by the administration from the e-newsletters, electronic registration, and announcements of important dates. A big thanks to Chloe Markowitz for being so friendly, responsive and helpful whenever I’ve contacted her. It reassures me that Seamus is in a safe and caring environment where he can continue to grow and have fun.”
Jean Lee, Parent of Rising 4th grader, Children's Workshop
“Over the course of these past five years, Leigha has learned how to play well with others in Cooperative Games, expressed her creativity in Art with Eve, cultivated her passion of becoming a chef in Cooking and Iron Chef classes, and increased her confidence in various dance, theater and music signing activities. Time well spent in homework help and study hall and also kept her on track with her school work. We have created many friends with whom we shall remain in close contact as a result of the warm community the Y staff and counselors have created.I would be remiss to not say how much the program has enriched Leigha's life and how much we will miss the staff and counselors who have been a part of our lives for such a long time.”
