’99 SNAPSHOTS:
Photographs by Michael Berman

How have we each changed since 1999, and what do those changes reveal about our community?

This exhibition features double portraits of 18 New Yorkers from all walks of life, many of whom have lived or worked in the East Village. Each person was originally photographed by Michael Berman in Manhattan in 1999 and then photographed a second time in the present day. These images are part of a larger documentary film and photography project, also titled ‘99 SNAPSHOTS, that seeks to gain a deeper understanding of our common humanity and how it can be harnessed to bridge the societal divides in our country today.

Exploring the lives and perspectives of this multifaceted slice of our community conveys a timeless – and timely – message: We can learn from anyone we encounter. The hope is that this exhibition will inspire you to meet new people, connect with them, and spend some time listening.

Friday, August 1- Friday, September 29
Reception: Thursday, September 4
