All About Virtual Training

Hello hello, I’m Damon Williams, 14Y Fitness Manager and your guide to all things health and wellness. I want to welcome you back to another blog by yours truly! Today we are taking a deep dive through the ins and outs of virtual personal training by answering your most commonly asked questions. So, without further ado, let’s go!

So, what exactly is Virtual Training?  

Virtual Training IS Personal Training! That means the same accountability, motivation, guidance and RESULTS that you can achieve working with a trainer face to face can still be had virtually.

How does Virtual Personal Training work?

Virtual Training works a lot like face-to-face training. First is the consultation, where you’ll meet one on one with a certified personal trainer through Zoom, FaceTime or any live video platform that works best for you. From there, you and your trainer will discuss your workout history, nutrition habits and fitness goals. Your trainer will take you through a few physical assessments to gauge your current fitness level and lay out the foundational plan that will get you to your goals. They will discuss all the virtual package options that are available and help you find the one that’s right for you!

Ok, got that part, what happens next?

From there, you and your trainer work together to come up with a training schedule that works best for you, whether that’s morning, afternoon or evening sessions. You can set standing weekly appointments or set the time and date for each session as you go. Either way the accountability is now there and your trainer will be expecting you at your scheduled appointment, ready to put in the work to achieve your goals.

I don’t have any equipment at home, so how can I work out? 

This is where the expertise of a certified trainer REALLY comes in handy. You’d be surprised how much you can accomplish with two soup cans and a sturdy chair or by using your own body weight. Trainers know how to create effective workouts under any circumstances based on YOUR goals and fitness level.

How can I learn new exercises and proper form through a computer screen?

Everyone learns differently! In addition to personally coaching you through each exercise to ensure you understand the proper form and movement, your trainer can also demonstrate the exercise, share a video demo of the exercise and/or send you the step by step exercise instructions right to your screen. Also, there are many, many exercises to choose from. It’s all about finding what works best for you.

Will my trainer track my workouts?

Yes! The key to any fitness goal is gradual progression, that means you want to get better and better over time. Your trainer will track each workout to ensure you are improving from session to session.

What happens to my sessions when the 14Y reopens and in-person training resumes?

Here’s the best part: you can continue virtual training, use your sessions in person at the 14Y or a combination of both!! Work with your trainer to continue the scheduling that’s works best for you.

I’m not sure I can afford virtual training!
