14Y Theater’s 2024 Dance Residency

14Y Theater’s 2024 Dance Residency
Dance in Evolution: 5 Works in Progress

Featuring Choreography by Isaiah Newby, Katherine Bahena- Benitez, Madison Hicks, Nattie Trogdon + Hollis Bartlett and Stephanie Shin.
Returning to the 14Y’s long history of dance creation and performance, we are excited to welcome five choreographers/dancers to our 2024 Dance Residency this February.

This showcase is the culmination of a three-week artist-in-residency program featuring the exploration of different themes, concepts, and contemporary dance genres.

Friday, February 16 | 7:30 PM
Saturday, February 17 | 8:00 PM
Sunday, February 18 | 2:00 PM

Saturday and Sunday presentations include a post-performance panel discussion with the choreographers.

Run time: 90 Minutes

Katherine Bahena- Benitez
JOTA
JOTA, meaning gay, is a word of empowerment meant to liberate those of the guilt in being raised in the Catholic Church.

Madison Hicks
Accumulating Moments
Accumulating Moments is a duet that explores the journey two artists go on to accumulate small memories as they age through life.

Isaiah Newby
Simulation
Within the bounds of our “reality,” how do we break out of the “simulation,”  the world we function in? Is it by drawing back our layers and shedding our forward-facing selves? Onstage, we seek to uncover and understand what it’s like to live and break out of the simulation.

Stephanie Shin
On the subject of bananas
On the subject of bananas explores the weight and absurdity of the word “banana,” a pejorative term used to describe Asian Americans – yellow on the outside, white on the inside.

Nattie Trogdon + Hollis Bartlett
Fallacies’
Fallacies’ is a movement work of reference that culls known dances from pop culture and bodily memory to live in the space between replication and translation.

Full program coming soon.
