Older adults play a crucial role in our inclusive community at the 14th Street Y, and we offer a variety of engaging programs geared specifically for you!

As a member of the 14th Street Y, you get full access to all our great benefits including a state-of-the-art fitness center, more than 50 fitness classes each week, gym access for daily basketball and open gym, access to our refreshing pool featuring daily open and lap, adult studies classes, community events, and more – all included!

FITNESS CENTER

The 14th Street Y Fitness Center offers a full range of cardio and weight equipment in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Our Fitness Center is staffed by friendly, knowledgeable fitness monitors, who can show you how to use equipment and answer any questions you may have. We warmly welcome everyone who wants to work out.

 

FITNESS CENTER ORIENTATION

To set you up for success, you’ll receive a complimentary Fitness Center Orientation when you join. You’ll learn how our Fitness Center equipment works, and get to know our friendly and knowledgeable fitness professionals.

 

BASKETBALL

Pickup basketball games happen every day at our indoor court, so drop in to dribble a ball or participate in a pickup game. Our full-court schedule includes dedicated times for adults. We also offer adult basketball leagues.

 

HEALTH + FITNESS WORKSHOPS & EVENTS

In addition to our regular fitness class schedule, we offer a variety of health, wellness and fitness workshops and pop-ups throughout the year.

From classes on nutrition to yoga intensives and CPR training workshops, we have something for everyone.

The Wellness Lunch and Learn Series is free for all! But space is limited, so please register here.

Winter Fitness Pop-ups are free for all 14Y members, unless otherwise noted. Occasionally we host free fitness pop-ups for everyone in our community!

THE 14TH STREET Y OFFERS A VARIETY OF LOW-IMPACT FITNESS CLASSES FOR EVERY AGE AND FITNESS LEVEL
Classes for Active Older Adults

MR. GU
Develop balance, body and breath control, strength, and posture.
All levels welcome.

SIT + BE FIT
Get an amazing workout in a chair! Align and strengthen, increase mobility and stability, build concentration, balance and coordination. Perfect for those with limited mobility or those who are recovering from an injury.

TAI CHI
Develop balance, body and breath control, strength, and posture.
All levels welcome.

ZUMBA GOLD
Designed for the active older adult, this is a lower intensity version of the popular Zumba Dance Fitness program. Focus on cardiovascular conditioning, coordination, balanced and flexibility through easy to follow dance moves. Come prepared to sweat, and leave feeling rejuvenated and empowered.

BARRE
Increase strength, balance, coordination, and work all the major muscle groups through modern dance and ballet principles and exercises.

GROOVE: YOUNG AT HEART
A fun dance class inspired by the music that’s easy on bones and joints.

NIA DANCE AND NIA JAZZ
Fun and easy dance classes for all ages, shapes & sizes. Draws from Dance Arts, Martial Arts, Healing Arts, and with a focus on Jazz Dance! Move your body’s way—you can’t get it wrong!

 

Cardio and Strength Training

AEROBICS WITH STRENGTH TRAINING
A low-impact cardiovascular workout. Strength training with weights to support muscle and bone health and increase strength, cardio, balance, and flexibility.

LOW IMPACT CARDIO AND CONDITIONING
A low-impact, but high-energy class with resistance equipment and weights that helps build cardio health and coordination, as well as bone density and muscle strength.

FUNCTIONAL TRAINING
Full body workout designed to improve strength, balance, flexibility and muscle definition.

 

Yoga and Pilates

To help you improve your balance, strength, body alignment, and coordination, we offer a range of yoga and Pilates classes for all levels.

Yoga classes include Yoga Basics, Iyengar Yoga to support joint mobility, bone density, balance and flexibility, and Hatha Yoga for a gentle workout.

Pilates classes include Pilates Fundamentals, Pilates Flow for more advanced routines, and Saturday and Sunday Pilates classes.

Dive into the 14th Street Y’s Aquatics Programs

Great for all ages, stages and abilities!

ADULT LEARN TO SWIM CLASSES
It’s never too late to learn and perfect swim skills. Learn water safety, breath and buoyancy control, front & back float, streamlining and basic stroke mechanics. All swim classes are taught by certified water safety instructors. We also offer private and semi-private swim lessons.

ADULT BEGINNER SWIM
Learn the fundamentals of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, breath control, and flotation. No prior swim skills are required.

ADULT ADVANCED BEGINNER SWIM
For those who have passed Adult Beginner Swim and/or can swim one lap front crawl and one lap backstroke.

AQUATICS EXERCISE
Looking for a low-impact, full-body workout? Check out our refreshing
and fun Aquatic Exercise classes taught by expert instructors! No swim skills required.

AQUA AEROBICS
Designed to develop cardiovascular fitness and strengthen muscles, this is the perfect way to get fit without stressing your joints. Have fun during a great wet workout.

AQUA EXERCISE
Strengthen muscles; increase your cardio and range of motion with minimal impact to your joints.

Adult Studies

The 14th Street Y is more than a fitness center–we are a community center

ADULT STUDIES CLASSES

Take advantage of the educational, social, recreational, and Jewish cultural activities offered at the 14th Street Y. Our Adult Studies classes include creative writing and drawing, monthly book clubs and theater discussion groups, Lunch and Learn sessions about Israeli culture, and more.

14Y Partner: Sirovich Center for Balanced Living

Located at 331 East 12th Street, NYC

Adult studies and programming does not stop at the 14th Street Y. The Educational Alliance provides services and programming at the Sirovich Center for Balanced Living, free for ages 60 and up, which provides a hot lunch five days a week and offers a wide variety of programs, classes, and activities that engage both the mind and the body.

The Sirovich Center also has activities to assist with monitoring and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, such as weight management support, stress and relaxation programs, life transition workshops, health screenings, and more.
