LABA 2026 Fellow Application
The 2026 theme for LABA is….(Drumroll) NAME. Become a LABA fellow.
This year at LABA, we will explore the power and limitations of names.
In our experimental house of study, we will consider how naming something can both shape and distort reality. Language is our primary tool for understanding the world around us and making sense of our lives. Naming gives shape to ideas that might otherwise remain abstract, making the intangible something we can recognize, discuss, and remember.
Together, we will explore everything from the biggest questions about our universe to the deeply personal. Along the way, we’ll contemplate texts about how the world was created through language, contemplate the mystery behind the names for God—including one name we are forbidden to say and another that provocatively translates to ‘The Name’—and reflect on how a name can chart the course of a life, or how taking on a new name can alter destiny.
Most importantly, we’ll have a great time talking, eating, drinking, learning, and laughing in the lush, free-flowing and endlessly playful environment of LABA: A Laboratory for Jewish Culture.
We invite you to consider how language impacts your life and creative work and to apply.
Information about the Application Process
Applications Open: Tuesday, September 9
Applications Deadline: Monday, October 13, at Midnight
We encourage artists and culture-makers from any creative field to apply. Past fellows have included performance artists, musicians, film makers, choreographers, bakers, and more!
All applicants must apply to LABA with either a work-in-progress or a concrete project idea connected to the theme of NAME. No previous knowledge of Jewish texts is required; however, we encourage a desire to study these texts in an intellectually rigorous, non-religious setting.
Once submitted, the Artistic Director and a panel of artists and faculty will review all applications. Finalists will be contacted for interviews, to take place at 14Y, or on Zoom during the last week of October or early November.
