UNMASKING BELONGING: AN ENSEMBLE OF ROLES
On Display: May 1 – May 31
Unmasking Belonging: An Ensemble of Roles presents artwork by older adult artists participating in a creative arts therapy program at 14Y’s Sirovich Center for Balanced Living. Engaging both visual and performing arts, the program fosters connection, reflection, and shared experiences. Featured artists worked across painting, mixed media, improvisation, and dramatic arts.
Grounded in creative exploration, the exhibition considers identity as shaped through the many perspectives we inhabit across a lifetime—the roles we enter, leave, revisit, and transform in both personal and communal contexts as we find belonging.
Through role exploration and perspective-taking, artists reflect on past, present, and emerging selves. Masks function as both material and metaphor, revealing, concealing, and reimagining identity in relation to self and others within community.
This exhibition is part of Educational Alliance’s month-long CelebratEArts festival. Now in its fifth year, the festival honors the creativity of older New Yorkers across art disciplines. Through visual art, music, theater, and dance, the festival highlights the richness of an intergenerational community. Learn more about CelebratEArts here.
