Sirovich Program Information

All classes are accessible, free, and led by professional instructors and teaching artists. Each class offers a great opportunity to learn new skills or revisit old pastimes as well as engage with your community.

Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes before your activities.

Meal Schedules

Breakfast

Monday – Friday | 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM | Dining Room
Sign in between 8:45 AM – 9:55 AM and ticket required. Dining room opens at 8:30 AM. Members have to exit the dining room at 10:30 AM.

 

Lunch

Monday – Friday | 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM | Dining Room
Sign in between 11:00 AM – 12:55 PM and ticket required. Dining room opens at 11:00 AM. Members have to exit the dining room at 1:30 PM.

 


Pantry Information

Sign up for our monthly pantry on the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments are required—please arrive within five minutes of your scheduled time. AhHa! Broadway Workshop Series
Starts Friday, October 3 (No Class, October 31) | 1:15 – 3:00 PM Auditorium
Participate in the AhHa! Broadway and Alliance Stage Company 1940s Radio Hour workshop! You will learn how to collaborate with each other to do a radio show using transcriptions of the original 1940’s broadcast recordings. There will be a final performance on Friday, November 14. Zumba with Jose

Join for a fun, energetic workout designed specifically for older adults! Our sessions combine lively Latin and international music with easy-to-follow dance moves that will get you moving, grooving, and smiling.


Write Your Story with Rhonda

Starts Thursday, October 9 (Last Class, October 30) | 1:00 – 2:00 PM Conference Room
During this 4 week series, we will write in response to prompts and exercises. In sharing and discussing this work with the group, we will begin to discover our own creative paths. Writing & Directing for the Stage with Concrete Temple Theatre Group

Starts Tuesday, October 14 | 4:00 – 5:30 PM | Auditorium
Participants will first look at what a director does and how a director approaches a script and then will apply what they have learned towards writing their own scripts. Participants will have a chance to perform their script in late February or March at Dixon Place Theater. Registration is required and spots are limited. Drama Therapy Group

Your Social Security: How It Works and Doesn’t: A Presentation with Silver Brigade

Join local community organizers Laura and Harriet for a presentation on the ‘ins and outs’ of Social Security. This workshop will explore the who, what, where, why, and how of the social security program, as well as touch on recent changes made to the federal program.

MTA Accessibility Presentation

Hear from the MTA’s Accessibility team on how the MTA continues to make improvements to the Subway, Bus, Access-A-Ride system, and OMNY tap and ride for reduced fare customers.

Decorate Pumpkins With Us for Fall

Fall is finally here! Celebrate the spooky season by crafting Fall and Halloween-themed décor, which will be displayed in the lobby.

Autumn Moon Festival

Beginners Ceramic Session with Deb

Discover the art of ceramics in this hands-on beginner class! Learn the fundamentals of working with clay, including hand-building techniques, basic wheel throwing, and glazing. Our expert instructor will guide you step by step as you create your own unique pottery pieces. This class serves as the first step toward our Intermediate Ceramic Courses, providing you with the foundational skills needed to advance your craft. Open Swim

Planning to swim at the 14th Street Y? Make sure to register at the Sirovich front desk before your visit—registration is required! Once registered, you’ll receive a confirmation. Without it, you won’t be able to attend. Don’t forget to bring your Sirovich membership card for check-in and a swim cap (required for all swimmers). Jazz Line Dance with Bernard

Discover the joy of movement in our Jazz Line Dance class! This dynamic class blends the vibrant energy of jazz dance with the fun and social aspects of line dancing, creating an exhilarating experience for dancers of all levels.

 

Balance 101 with Demetra 
3:15 PM – 4:00 PM | 1ST FL Auditorium
This chair class focuses on strengthening muscles and improving flexibility to allow for the joint stability and mobility we need for walking and completing everyday tasks around the home like carrying groceries and doing the laundry. People of all abilities, including anyone who uses an assistive walking device or wheelchair or is recovering from knee, foot, hip injuries, etc., can participate. You also have the option of completing standing work, with the chair in arms-reach.

 

Tapping Together with Demetra
4:00 – 5:00 PM | 1ST FL Auditorium
Join us for an exciting intergenerational tap dance class, offered in partnership with 14Y Afterschool students grades K – 2. Instruction is tailored for adults and children who have a passion for dance and rhythm or just want to have fun. No previous dance experience is necessary to participate.

She can help with device usage, troubleshooting, and offer guidance on various topics such as email, texting, setting up voicemail, tips and tricks, learning about apps, and protecting yourself from viruses and malware. Jewelry Making with Phyliss

Unleash your creativity in this hands-on beginner jewelry making class! Whether you’re looking to start a new hobby or create personalized gifts, this workshop will guide you through the basics of designing and assembling your own custom jewelry. Learn techniques such as wire wrapping, beading, and working with findings, while experimenting with various materials like glass beads, semi-precious stones, and metals. Our center serves delicious and nutritious meals to LES’s older adult community daily and needs volunteers to serve food during lunch services.

The Sirovich Center holds a food pantry service on the first Wednesday of each calendar month.
