Sirovich Program Information

All classes are accessible, free, and led by professional instructors and teaching artists. Each class offers a great opportunity to learn new skills or revisit old pastimes as well as engage with your community.

Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes before your activities.

Meal Schedules

Breakfast

Monday – Friday | 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM | Dining Room

Tickets available for purchase from 8:45 AM – 9:55 AM. Dining room opens at 8:30 AM. Members have to exit the dining room at 10:30 AM.

Lunch

Monday – Friday | 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM | Dining Room

Sign in between 11:00 AM – 12:55 PM and ticket required. Dining room opens at 11:00 AM. Members have to exit the dining room at 1:30 PM.

 


Pantry Information

Sign up for our monthly pantry on the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments are required—please arrive within five minutes of your scheduled time. Items cannot be given out before your appointment. To sign up or learn more, call 646-395-4534, email sirovich@14streety.org, or visit the front desk.

Open Swim at 14 Street Y
Starts, Monday September 8 | 2:00 – 3:00 PM | 14 Street Y Pool

Planning to swim at the 14th Street Y? Make sure to register at the Sirovich front desk before your visit—registration is required! Once registered, you’ll receive a confirmation. Without it, you won’t be able to attend. Don’t forget to bring your Sirovich membership card for check-in and a swim cap (required for all swimmers). Tapping Together: Intergenerational Tap Dance Class with Demetra
Starts, Monday September 15 | 4:00 – 5:00 PM | Auditorium

Tap dance sharpens reflexes and improves memory skills and coordination. Classes will work toward establishing fundamental tap movements, vocabulary, and will work on basic rhythms and steps that progress into fun and lively dance combinations. Tap dancing is a great way to develop musicality, timing and balance. No previous dance experience required. Sneakers or tap shoes welcome!

Farmers Market Trip
Fridays, September 5 and September 12 | 1:00 PM | Union Square Farmers Market

Join staff for a walking trip to the Union Square green market and receive $6 in Health Bucks to purchase items. Please note, the $6 must be used during the trip. Field Trip to Hispanic Society Museum & Library for Hispanicx Heritage
Friday, September 26 | 1:00 – 3:30 PM | Meet in the lobby @12:45 PM

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a trip to the Hispanic Society Museum & Library, showcasing the arts and cultures of Spain, Portugal, and their former colonies. Join us for an informative session on hearing health! Learn what to expect from a hearing test, why good hearing is important for your overall health, and discover devices and apps that can help you hear conversations, phone calls, and TV more clearly.


Voices of the People: Runway and Open Mic Celebration

Visit this tabling to welcome the New Year and learn about the significance of the Rosh Hashanah holiday. Come and enjoy apple slices and honey!

Between the Acts New York Theatre Ballet Workshop
Monday, September 22 | 1:00 – 2:00 PM | Auditorium

This program will include accessible conversation about dance, history of dance, costumes, and what it takes to become a professional dancer, as well as beginner-friendly dance movement classes. No previous dance experience or dance attire is necessary.


Older Adult Power Tech In Presentation with United Neighborhood Houses

Learn about a nonpartisan presentation designed to empower older adults with knowledge about how local, state, and federal decisions affect essential services like Medicare, homecare, and older adult centers.


Mental Health Talk: In Our Own Voice with National Alliance on Mental Illness NYC

A heartfelt talk led by two trained volunteers who live with mental health conditions. They’ll share personal stories, offer hope, and answer your questions in a safe, supportive space.


Reaching Our Neighbors: Voter Outreach & Absentee Ballot Support
Tuesday, September 30 | Session 1. 1:30 – 2:30 PM | Session 2. 4:00 – 5:00 PM | Lounge

Help us support homebound members and those away from the center by making outreach calls to assist with mail-in and absentee ballots for the upcoming election. Want to volunteer by helping make outreach calls with staff members, please contact M Clayton at mrclayton@edalliance.org.

Advanced Ceramic Hand Building Class with Bianca

Last Class September 22
Discover the art of ceramics in this hands-on beginner class! Learn the fundamentals of working with clay, including hand-building techniques, basic wheel throwing, and glazing. Our expert instructor will guide you step by step as you create your own unique pottery pieces. This class serves as the first step toward our Intermediate Ceramic Courses, providing you with the foundational skills needed to advance your craft. Jazz Line Dance with Bernard

Discover the joy of movement in our Jazz Line Dance class! This dynamic class blends the vibrant energy of jazz dance with the fun and social aspects of line dancing, creating an exhilarating experience for dancers of all levels.

 

Balance 101 with Demetra 
3:15 PM – 4:00 PM | 1ST FL Auditorium
This chair class focuses on strengthening muscles and improving flexibility to allow for the joint stability and mobility we need for walking and completing everyday tasks around the home like carrying groceries and doing the laundry. People of all abilities, including anyone who uses an assistive walking device or wheelchair or is recovering from knee, foot, hip injuries, etc., can participate. You also have the option of completing standing work, with the chair in arms-reach. No registration is required.

 

Tapping Together with Demetra
4:00 – 5:00 PM | 1ST FL Auditorium
Join us for an exciting intergenerational tap dance class, offered in partnership with 14Y Afterschool students grades K – 2. Instruction is tailored for adults and children who have a passion for dance and rhythm or just want to have fun. No previous dance experience is necessary to participate.

Tai Chi Class with Annie

Tai Chi is an art that promotes balance, strength, grace, and flexibility, and it promotes a meditative mood with its “dance of quiet motion.” No registration needed. Just drop in!

Chair Yoga with Rie

Classic yoga class focuses on stretching, joint mobility, balance, posture, and bone density support. Safe for folks with injuries and osteoporosis. Energizing for all. No registration required.

Join our Jose Zumba class for a fun, energetic workout designed specifically for older adults! Our sessions combine lively Latin and international music with easy-to-follow dance moves that will get you moving, grooving, and smiling. No registration required.


Knitting Group with Schekira

Come in and unwind and knit or crochet. You can bring your own projects, practice techniques, or share your trade secrets! All are welcome!


Chinese Open Ballroom Dance

She can help with device usage, troubleshooting, and offer guidance on various topics such as email, texting, setting up voicemail, tips and tricks, learning about apps, and protecting yourself from viruses and malware. Whether you’re looking to start a new hobby or create personalized gifts, this workshop will guide you through the basics of designing and assembling your own custom jewelry. Learn techniques such as wire wrapping, beading, and working with findings, while experimenting with various materials like glass beads, semi-precious stones, and metals. Participants will have the opportunity to donate select handmade pieces for sale at the center. Proceeds from these sales go directly back into supporting center programs and services—a fun and creative way to give back to the community!

Meal Service Helpers

Our center serves delicious and nutritious meals to LES’s older adult community daily and needs volunteers to serve food during lunch services.

 

Food Pantry

Held on the first Wednesday of each month

Packing 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM and 1:40 – 4:00 PM

Distribution 1:40 – 4:00 PM

The Sirovich Center holds a food pantry service on the first Wednesday of each calendar month.
