PAUSE/PLAY: Tu B’Shvat (Going Green)

Celebrate the “Birthday for Trees” with the 14Y! Together we will grow our understanding and awareness of the world around us through art, games, PJ Play! and many other fun activities for the whole family. As part of our Tu B’shvat celebration, we will have wine tasting for grown-ups as well as yummy holiday treats for kids to enjoy all day too.

  • 2:00 – 2:45 PM: Chair Yoga – Enjoy yoga but not ready to roll on the floor? Chair yoga is a great way to stretch and relax.
  • 2:00 – 2:45 PM: Mural Makers – Let’s get messy! Come take part in learning how to blend some colors together to help paint a geometric mural that will hang in the halls. See what it’s like to be a part of a whole painting.
  • 2:00 – 2:45 PM: T-Shirt Trivets – Transform old clothes from clutter to crafts! In this interactive workshop, community artist Shawn Shafner teaches families how their used garments can become trivets, coasters, potholders, rugs and more – while also reducing consumption and diverting resources from landfills.
  • 2:00 – 3:45 PM: Family Swim – The lanes are lifted in our pool so everyone can enjoy a refreshing swim. We’ll leave one lane going for those serious swimmers.
  • 2:00 – 3:45 PM: Gaga with After School – Join us for an Israeli version of Dodge Ball with a Afterschool vibe as we play gaga with Justice!
  • 2:00 – 4:45 PM: NCDC Community Crafting – Come craft and learn about what does sustainability mean to you in the lobby with Julieta from NCDC! We will talk about eco-consciousness and asking them what they already do, or would like to begin doing to make a positive impact on our environment.
  • 2:00 – 4:45 PM: Childcare – Available for children 6 months – 6 years
  • 3:00 – 3:45 PM: Limmud with Rabbi Rapport – Deep dive into a special conversation around the Jewish holiday of Tu B’shvat with Rabbi Yael Rapport from CBST!
  • 3:00 – 3:45 PM: Artists Gym (5+) – For our elementary-age friends, join theater artist and NCDC Movement Unit Head Sarah Plotkin on a creative exploration of the Earth as we use our bodies and imaginations to explore from the mountains of the rainforest, to the valleys of the ocean. Come flex your creative muscles at Artist Gym!
  • 3:00 – 3:45 PM: PJ Play! with WonderSparks Chad is back this month with: Princess Petunia and Her Plant…When the sun goes cold, all trees and plants are in danger of freezing!  It’s up to a brave princess to overcome medieval bullies, dragons, wizards to bring some Tikkun Olam to the world.
  • 4:00 – 4:45 PM: Dribbles & Drills – Bring the whole family for activities and games on the basketball courts! You’ll shoot, dribble, pass, and play with resident Basketball expert Gil. You’re going to have a ball!
  • 4:00 – 4:45 PM: Open Play – For our friends 3 & under, you can get your wiggles out in the playroom during open play!
  • 4:00 – 4:45 PM: Growing Greens – A big part of Tu B’shvat is planting new trees and celebrating the ones we already have growing. Come decorate and pot your own plants to take home!
  • 4:00 – 4:45 PM: Wine Tasting through Genesis – Join Jon Adam Ross as he talks about the stories of Genesis and we explore their connections to us today while tasting our way through delicious wine pairings. 21+
  • 4:00 – 4:45 PM: Artists Gym – Join theater artist, Sarah Plotkin on a creative exploration of the Earth as we use our bodies and imaginations to explore from the mountains of the rainforest, to the valleys of the ocean. Children and adults of all ages are invited to flex their creative muscles at Artist Gym!
  • 5:00 – 6:00 PM: Fruitful Delights –A Tu B’shvat Seder: This months community program is a special celebration for all the amazing things our trees do every year! Come learn about the Jewish holiday “Tu B’shvat”, taste delicious holiday foods, and sing songs with the 14Y’s Rabbi Shira Koch Epstein and Town & Village’s Cantor Postman.
