East Village Residents Beat High Prices & Support Local Farmers

Fresh Organic Vegetable Delivery at the 14th Street Y Starts Soon

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (April 30, 2009) – This summer, local farmers are bringing their freshest, locally-grown produce to downtown Manhattan at competitive prices, thanks to The 14th Street Y and Monkshood Nursery and Garden.

The Tuv Ha’Aretz: Hazon Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) project provides residents with fresh, nutritious vegetables at a specially negotiated, discounted price, while helping to sustain the livelihood of local farmers, by allowing them to pre-sell “shares” in their upcoming harvest.Beginning in June, Hazon CSA members will enjoy a weekly delivery of 7 to 10 varieties of fresh, certified organic vegetables to the 14th Street Y. This year’s program will offer the most diverse selection of produce in the CSA’s history and in greater quantities than past years. By participating, members are also supporting local farmers and helping to build a healthier, more sustainable world.

"The CSA at the 14th Street Y is such a bargain! Last year, we got lots of fresh, organic vegetables every week, including some great ones our family had never tried before,” says East Village resident Elise Hurley who has already signed up for the program this year. “We love knowing where our food comes from and supporting local farmers.”The CSA registration deadline is May 15th. The season runs from June 4 to October 29, 2009. Space is limited to a first come, first serve basis. To register, stop by the 14th Street Y at 344 East 14th Street or email CSA@14StreetY.org
